Background
  • Program began in 1952 to enhance the Smokey Bear fire prevention campaign


  • In 3 years over a million kids were JFRs


  • Program eventually broadened to encompass more than fire prevention


  • Some Agencies and States developed their own Junior Ranger programs


  • Interest in program waned in recent years, need to revamp recognized

Okay, so I’m a kid, what do I do?
  •  - Go to teacher or local natural resource person for activity booklet


  •   - Write to Smokey Bear 20252 requesting         activity booklet


  •   - Get on the internet and download     activities (planned for future)

Then What?
  • Take completed activities to local natural resource person or teacher, or
  • Mail completed activities to the Symbols Cache
  • Congratulations, you’re a Junior Forest Ranger!
