What do you need
to play this game?
A group of fun friends, 3 or more,
and a snowy yard - even an inch or two of snow will work - but
the deeper the snow, the greater the challenge and the fun!
The object of the game is for the
hungry fox to catch as many geese as possible to fill his hungry
stomach - and for the geese to avoid being eaten! The fox
catches the geese by tagging them
on the trails. The geese are safe at their home-base in the center
of the circle. Players can only be on the trails.
Making the Playing Field:
- Draw a complete circle in the snow
with your boot prints by walking in a circle. Makethe circle
as large as you want to have to run around!
- Now divide your circle into a pizza
shape by walking across the circle two times. (This will make
four pieces of pie or pizza).
- You should have a spot where the
lines intersect, or come together, in the middle of the circle.
This is the safe homebase for the geese - the fox cannot eat
the geese if they are in the center. How
many geese at a time can be in the safe spot?
- Outside the circle is the "fox
den" where geese must go when the fox tags them for "fox
dinners."
Players:
- One player will be the hungry fox,
a predator (who hunts and eats other animals.
- The rest of the players are the
geese, a prey (animal that is hunted and eaten by predators.
Game rules:
- All players must stay on the paths
and cross-paths of the circle.
- Players who go outside of the path
are out of the game. They then go to the "fox den"
to be eaten by the fox later. Yum, Yum!
- The hungry fox tries to catch all
the geese. The fox must stay on the paths also. If the fox goes
outside of the path the game is ended and a new game starts
with a new fox.
- When a fox tags a goose, the goose
must go into the "fox den."
- When all the geese are caught,
the game is over and the hungry fox chows down.
- The next game starts when the old
fox has chosen the tastiest goose to become the new fox.
Try playing this game
in the summer. Just use chalk to draw the playing field on a driveway!
