Guidelines - Costume Care

Picture of Woodsy Owl standing in full costume

  • After each wearing, let the costume thoroughly air-dry before placing it into its container. Wipe out the inside of the head with damp cloth, and allow it to dry. Spray it lightly with a disinfectant-type product, and allow it to dry.

  • Your costume can be sent to Scollon Productions, Incorporated for periodic cleaning, repairs, and replacements:

  • Be sure the dressing area is clean and dry. A table and a rack for placing and hanging up the costume parts are helpful.
  • No smoking, eating or drinking in the costume.
  • Keep the costume, and costume parts, away from heat sources such as radiators, stoves and campfires.
  • After each appearance, check the costume for needed repairs or cleaning. Note this for immediate follow-up by the manager of the costume.
  • When necessary, wash the costume clothing separately using mild soap and cold water. Spot clean the rest of the outfit with a mild soap and water mixture. Never dry-clean the costume. Never use hot water or a dryer.
